About

In November 2013, the GCHS Board approved funding for an Oral History Project (OHP) and interviews began in the spring of 2014. The project involves the taping of oral interviews with any number of people who lived or worked in the Grand Canyon or the nearby region. The recorded interviews and transcriptions are being stored in the Museum Collections at Grand Canyon National Park and in the GCHS Collection at the Cline Library. Interviews and their transcriptions are becoming available on this web site as well. It is our hope these interviews will become a lasting record for the personal histories of the Grand Canyon, to be used in future research endeavors.

Sign up here: https://www.volunteermatch.org/search/opp2280240.jsp to help transcribe interviews.

The Grand Canyon Historical Society seeks volunteer transcriptionists to transcribe oral histories pertaining to the Grand Canyon and surrounding regions. You can see finished transcriptions and listen to interviews here:

http://grandcanyonhistory.org/oral-history.html

Volunteers will receive a transcription assignment and a link to an MP3 recording on the GCHS website. The volunteer will need a computer to play the recording and a way to transcribe the recording into a word document. Good typing skills and English language proficiency are a must.

The transcribed interview will need to be e-mailed back to the Historical Society contact.

Thank You for your consideration.
